Symptoms of Hypoparathyroidism
Having a chronic condition like Hypoparathyroidism can make you feel like you have a heavy head, headaches, and pain that isn’t going away. But there are some treatments you can try.
Using the Bioelectrical Impedance method, the hematocrit was measured. A plethora of blood samples were collected and analyzed. A small sample of 25 age and sex-matched healthy controls were also included.
Besides determining hematocrit, we also measured the most notable osmotic concentration of sodium chloride (NaCl) in the sample. This was measured by serial dilutions of whole blood. The concentration of NaCl that caused 50% hemolysis was taken as the median osmotic fragility. We did not find any measurable effect of vitamin C supplementation on capillary fragility.
Considering the plethora of data available on vitamin C, it would be foolish to conclude that a placebo would do the trick. Vitamin C has been shown to be an effective nutrient in boosting energy levels in elderly humans. Although it may not help people without scurvy, it can be of some value in helping improve the vascular system.
One might also ask whether vitamin C supplementation is the best way to treat scurvy. Although a vitamin C-rich diet may help reduce the symptoms of scurvy, vitamin C supplementation may not necessarily improve a patient’s blood sugar levels.
As a medical researcher, I have gathered that the most notable effect of vitamin C is not the vitamin itself, but rather the way it interacts with the body’s fluids. The effect is magnified in the setting of chronic kidney failure, but a good vitamin C regimen can be of some value even in the absence of renal disease. For instance, vitamin C supplements may be one of the most important factors in reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease.
For instance, it has been shown that vitamin C improves capillary strength in diabetic patients. In addition, vitamin C may help strengthen capillaries in elderly patients with low vitamin C levels.
